In a community setting, the challenge often disguises itself as an easy solution. Meeting someone’s demand, on the surface, is easy. She needs this, make it happen for her.
However, when we confuse meeting one’s needs with meeting one’s demands, the easy answer becomes a dangerous solution.
Meeting one’s demand can often mean that it’s at the expense of another person. Someone has to lose for her to gain.
Our work often isn’t about what's easy, convenient, or obvious, but what serves in the long run. Staying focused on this goal helps us create the change we seek to make.
