There are many ways to solve a problem.
We are running out of time, so we tackle the symptoms one after another because we are desperate.
We are running out of money, so we cut corners and go with whatever is cheapest because, compared to running out of time, running out of money is even worse.
We are running out of both, and cutting corners on symptoms sounds easiest, cheapest, and most obvious.
But what looks easiest and most obvious (so it makes sense on the surface) is the worst way to solve a problem.
When something isn’t working but should, instead of looking at what’s obvious, we tackle the root. Unless you are willing to change what has never changed, the symptoms will keep coming back.
Having the guts to name the real difficult problem is the first step.
