the myth of empathy

Many people believe that empathy is standing in the other person’s shoes. Even though it’s not wrong, but it is incomplete.

 

Empathy is more than that.

 

Empathy is also about standing in our own shoes. In the nonviolent communication world, we call it self-empathy.

 

Until we know what it's like standing in our own shoes, it’s hard to imagine what it must’ve felt like to be in the other people’s shoes.
