I learned these concepts from Caroline Myss, author of Anatomy of the Spirit. They helped me navigate some most challenging times in my life when I wasn't sure which way to go - harmony or courage, how to handle relationships with people I love and care about, or see life when it felt like no positivity left but setbacks and frustration. Understanding the differences has changed my life.
It’s easy to confuse the two. The former is about power. And the latter is about love.
When we help others just so we can feel good about ourselves, it's power. When other people feel good about themselves and powerful because of something we did, we did it for love.
Power is what we have gained for ourselves. Love, on the other hand, is about empowering and lifting others.
We all start with the former since that’s how we learn about ourselves and the world, but we are in a much better place when we start to love.
