Feelings and needs are very helpful in connecting with self. I found this true when I am triggered, disconnected and being off-center. Connecting to my feelings and needs are one of the most helpful ways in bringing empathy and self-connection back into my world.
It works so well for self-connection, often we confuse them with connection to the others.
When that happens, we might see the relationship imbalance with one side deeply anchors in meeting own feelings and needs, while the other deprives on the both.
The imbalance can be the result of not understanding the difference between connecting to oneself versus with the others.
Inter-personal connection involves empathy for the both sides, shared reality, aligned values, beliefs, goals as well as culture influence, etc. etc.
Focusing on feelings and needs only for inter-personal connections is oversimplifying and denying how human beings naturally relate to each other, and might cause serious consequences such as emotional hurt or falling out a relationship.
Understanding the limit helps us understand each other.
