We react.
Two types of outcomes follow.
One, we notice our reaction and get curious about ourselves and the situation. What’s going on? What thoughts are running through my mind? What’s the goal here? And where are we at this moment?
The other is that we misinterpret our reaction as a sign to do something immediately. We act on our reaction without pausing to reflect and understand what just happened.
When we make unexamined decisions and act impulsively, two things often happen: we make mistakes, and we leave others to manage our reactions. Our team eventually learns what to share and what not to share to navigate their work with us.
It costs everyone in the long run.
