In a workshop, we were asked to explore our deeper why.
When being asked this question, I often interpreted it as the purpose of my life. But it turned out that it doesn’t have to start there if it’s too big of a question. It can start with specific. For example, why did I choose to be a brand marketer? Sure, brand marketing allows me to help businesses and organizations define their brand and existence, but there is a deeper reason for me. After working through the process, it surfaced.
Since the early days of my life, I could see and feel more than my siblings and parents without knowing it. Often the evidence to validate what I saw or felt wasn’t available for my parents to see and believe. Over time, instead of seeing this gift as something positive, I got words and phrases such as “sensitive” or “think too much”. Communicating what I know has become the work I do. By doing this work, I help others see and connect, and at the same time, it heals me inside.
If what I shared today is helpful for you, I invite you to explore your deeper why.
Why do you choose the work you do? Or why do you create? Why bother?
