The administration in our school district wrote a letter telling families that they are focusing on building universal standards across all district schools.
Standards are essential for building effective systems. They provide clear expectations for everyone on the team regarding their goals and the criteria for measuring success. Standards transform abstract concepts into concrete ones, helping to prevent inconsistencies and ensuring quality in services.
Without established standards, holding teams accountable for their promises becomes challenging, as does measuring the outcomes.
But before we establish standards, we must clarify our promise: this is the purpose of our organizations or business. We create standards to achieve this very goal.
Until the customers agree with you on what’s it for, building standards alone rarely serves.
