In our Podcasting Interview Practice Group this week, the focus was how we “see” the world.
It turns out we all have our different experiences with seeing, may it be through 5 senses, spirituality, energy, and physicality.
Music turned out to be one of the mediums that effectively contribute to our "seeing" experience phenomenally.
Here is Benjamin Zander’s TED talk if you haven’t seen it. He demonstrates how Chopin’s prelude moved the audience, and people who had never listened to classical music before.
I went along with it by closing my eyes and noticing everything that happened to me. Mr. Zander invited the audience to think about someone died in our lives. A family friend that passed away at my early 20s came to mind.
Listening to the music, emotions started to grow in my heart. Slowly but surely, the sensation spread to my entire body. When it hit the climax, the intensity in my body synchronized with the arch of the music to the max. Mourning. Seeing the joyous time we had together but no longer there. Warm feelings rushed through me. Tears came. Sadness went deep. Bittersweetness. Vibration. Back and forth… at the same time in the same space.
Slowly I was brought back to the reality. The music ended in peace.
Shared human experience connects us all regardless of our differences. A place that we meet each other through our shared humanity. The very reason why we have music, art and the other artifacts in the first place.
The season we learn to see.
