schedule

There are train tracks between our office building and the park near downtown. On some days, trains are busy running back and forth, while on other days, the tracks are quiet without a single train passing by. If I want to catch a train, I’d better have a schedule in hand.

This reminds me of life. There are many opportunities for us to do something and move forward. Marketers build tension into strategies that create a sense of urgency: here is the schedule for the upcoming thing, don’t miss out!

Believing that catching something first because who knows when the next thing will come is the narrative that we are telling ourselves. Hop on now and think later.

There is nothing wrong with taking actions. But when the schedule is the only thing we could see and care about, the problem is obvious. Just like taking a train, schedules are useless when we don’t know where we are going.
