purpose of competition

Competition means “a rivalry where two or more parties strive for a common goal which cannot be shared: where one's gain is the other's loss” according to Wikipedia.

Competition is the way to carry on winning tradition.

Even though competition is an effective way to select a better team, it could mean something different in a community.

When everyone cares and invests in each other's skills and well-being, competition means learning. The betterment is still valued. But when it's used to help community members learn together, it looks more like peer support than rivalry.
