Self-talk can be a subtle yet revealing way that leads to different outcomes.
"I'm so stupid!", "I always mess things up", and "I just can't do it!" are words we say to ourselves when we are beating ourselves up.
"This is hard!", "What else can I do to make a difference here?", and "I'm sure I can do better!" are the things to say when we choose resilience and learning.
Being hard on ourselves is a distraction from focusing on what truly matters. Holding onto actions and decisions that didn't work is not only counterproductive but also a punishment that serves nobody.
It turns out that resilience, stemming from grounded self-confidence, honesty (not exaggerating what is worse than it is, or downplaying what is better), and a positive outlook on life, is how we keep creating momentum and making things better.
Choose resilience, not punishment.
