ordinary vs. relatable

These are two concepts that often confuse us.

Being relatable isn't the same as being ordinary. The most remarkable services, products, and organizations are often relatable first when we encounter them. Later, we realize that their relatedness goes beyond our imagination to the point that we feel seen, heard, understood, and cared for. They empathize with people and solve problems we often experience but don't know how to articulate. The connection only becomes more profound and better as our loyalty grows.

On the contrary, when the so-called "out-of-this-world" services and products are too far out of genre or category, mistaking the unrelatedness for uniqueness and extraordinary makes it challenging to connect. Insisting on being unrelatable and scarce often comes from fear - that we are not enough and ordinary.

Like how "remarkable" works, instead of chasing the idea of "extraordinary," we can choose to focus on creating and serving people we care about.
