observation and story

There are significant differences between the two.

Observation is based on facts – what actually happened without dispute.

Stories are the narratives that we come up with to connect the dots. There are positive stories and negative stories.

Sometimes, what’s challenging isn’t about the alignment on which side of the story but not even agreeing on the observations. This disagreement might be because of our different perceptions and understanding of the world.

When we can’t agree on observations, everything else is off the table.
