With the challenges in the world, we found ourselves in constant mourning: disconnections in our lives, systems that don’t serve people, the climate change, the polarized society…
In the nonviolent communication (NVC) world, we have a practice called mourning. The goal is to carve out time and space so we get in touch with our feelings and unmet needs: for people, the environment and connections that used to be part of our lives but no longer there.
It lets us embrace our sorrow, pain, anger and emptiness, and gently recognizes our desires and wishes (that things could be different) before we move into our hopes and the future.
Mourning is an empathic and compassionate act.
