I have an empathy buddy. It’s the partnership we created with each other to practice giving and receiving empathy using Nonviolent Communication language and model. This partnership has been working very well between us.
When practice giving and receiving empathy from the other person, we have undistracted focus on each other by listen to the sharing, then offering guesses on feelings and needs. Since the start, I realized how important to have a person that I could lean in when I am going through rough time. Not a single time, I was disappointed with the empathy guessing offered by my partner.
It’s rare that we get to slow down and take a pause to see ourselves and care for our emotional wellbeing, because it is so easy to bury hurt, disconnection and keep going until we can’t anymore.
There is slowing down to increase self-connection through empathy, and there is moving fast to keep our disconnected self busy.
Which one would you choose?
