When we are triggered and disconnected, self-empathy helps. Always.
But self-empathy has its limits.
When the trigger is too impactful, we often need additional support from others. Without an external support system for empathy, we often experience prolonged recovery from emotional disconnection.
Instead of suffering alone, connecting with family and friends fills up our empathy cup. This is another reason to hang out with people whom we count on during difficult times.
