Is one of the reasons that people maintain affiliation even when trust is broken.
With only two health insurance providers in the marketplace, people often choose to stay with what they get, regardless of the issues they experience, because there are no other choices.
The same goes for school options. One of the reasons that families stay with the system even when the trust is broken, besides the sunk cost and practical necessity in the relationship invested in the current school, is the limited alternatives. There aren’t other comparable options to choose from.
With broken trust, affiliation changes, too. Among the changes, we often see emotional distancing, and relationships lean towards transactions instead of deep connections. With increasing distrust, people experience heightened vigilance and continuously reduced engagement while seeking alternatives.
Once something better comes along, people leave.
