Learning is a vulnerable process. It’s vulnerable as we go from the state of not knowing to knowing.
Because we haven’t learned it yet, we make mistakes and keep trying until we figure it out.
The vulnerable nature of learning process in a group setting requires a safe environment. So we can be our honest self and explore the unknown together without experiencing shame, judgment, criticism, and fear that drives them all. Trusting self is just as important as trusting our peers, coaches and teachers in this shared space to maximize interactions and the learning outcome.
The environment impacts the result. But often we see the collective emotional safety been underestimated even overlooked.
Until we can trust, it's challenging to learn anything for real.
