Two ways that we show up as leaders:
We don’t believe people can do a good job. We don’t trust people to be honest with us. We don’t think people know how to behave without signs everywhere. We talk about values and beliefs, but do not care about what they look like in practice.
This is leading with distrust.
We know we need to clearly communicate job responsibilities and expectations before we hand off a job. We trust everyone is honest unless it’s proven otherwise. We show people how to do things and encourage positive behaviors. Rather than only talk about it, we act on our values and beliefs.
This is leading with trust.
Two approaches lead to two very different outcomes. We should know that our leadership style is a direct reflection of who we are.
