When you need to get paid, you usually don't get to choose your client or your boss. You are desperate and have no time to build trust, let alone learn about values to align. There is no time for any of that. All you can do is wish things would work out on their own.
When choosing your project, you do the opposite. You want to figure out what you are interested in doing, where to put your time and money, and who you want to work with. You don't wish for things to work out on their own. Instead, you plan to make things happen. You have learned to read the signs, figure out alternatives, and know when to stop.
Instead of believing you are a drifter and letting the current take you wherever it goes, you are the Capitan to chart your course and navigate the path to your destination.
