grow capacity

My 10th grader asked me for advice. His mentor, who is his homeroom teacher at a project-based learning school, recommended that he move on to the advanced learning program. But he isn't sure that's a good idea. The reason? The process he developed to succeed limits him to fewer projects. He has spent nearly twice as much time on assignments compared to his peers.

After he shared this issue, I realized he isn't the only one struggling with it.

Me too.

Getting used to our routines makes our lives comfortable. We enjoy stability and feel good to operate within our control. However, learning—constant learning—requires us to adapt and develop new skills.

The challenge isn't just about applying the same approach to one project when we manage two; it’s about what we can change to operate on a larger scale.

Perhaps the issue isn't which programs to turn down or which tasks to prioritize, but expanding our capacity. Increasing our capacity lets us learn to lead larger groups or manage additional projects and initiatives alongside our current workload.

Our capacity determines what we can achieve and deliver.
