In Nonviolent Communication, communicating gratitude is one of the practices to lead a compassionate life. Even though giving thanks comes in all shapes and forms, there are 3 things that we practice consistently: observation, identifying our feelings, and met needs.
For example, we appreciate our family and friends. When we communicate our gratitude, we want to be specific about how they show up in our lives or the things they have done for us, how we feel about what they have done, and how our lives have changed for the better because of them.
Taking time to communicate gratitude not only helps us observe what’s happening in our lives and keep in touch with ourselves but also shows up as our genuine selves for others. Instead of saying the “right” thing, we connect with our hearts.
Happy Thanksgiving.
