getting in the way

How do we know if we get in other people’s way?

When you are committed to helping others, you might wonder how you end up getting in the way of people's exploration, learning, and growth.

Why can simply helping others be a problem that does both sides a disservice?

It turns out the problem isn’t about us being willing to help or not; instead, improper "helping" has taken away people’s autonomy, motivation, trust in themselves, and other opportunities for interaction and growth – the more we help, the more we get in the way.

There is a difference between empowering someone to solve a problem themselves rather than taking away their self-trust and reliance on learning breakthroughs.

Giving people answers and advice and making them over-depend on us is how we get in their way and become a problem for them instead of real help.
