In Marshall Rosenberg’s book, Nonviolent Communication, generalization is considered one of the challenges in human communications.
When generalizing issues that needs to be addressed specifically, a well-intended action can become a problem by itself.
Using one standard to measure everyone’s learning is a generalization. Addressing an issue without considering the other possibilities is another example.
Generalization has its place in the world just like everything else. Choosing it with the awareness shows our care and understanding on the subject.
Beware of its limit.
