Many people may find it challenging to remain oneself while in the collective.
We want to cooperate and be agreeable enough to work with someone, but not at the expense of losing ourselves or other people.
Where to cooperate and where to insist is a challenge for many, especially when holding on to our stubborn and insecure self feels like the right thing to do (screaming fear)—it often doesn’t.
When fear runs wild:
We make poor decisions.
We sever relationships and damage connections when withdrawal is the only thing we know.
We can’t help ourselves, let alone people around us.
“What if?” is the question lingering over our ears. And the worst-case scenario is the only thing we could think of.
The best way to counter fear is to offer help, as Seth Godin said.
Helping others. Contributing so that other people have a better day is how we shift to the other side.
When we can turn ourselves around, we find positive changes all around us.
