everything everywhere all at once

It’s a movie that got famous because of all the awards.

I am interested in the story partially because my husband and I are first generation Chinese-American, and small business owner. But more importantly, like Evelyn, I’m a women, wife, daughter and Mom.

I understand her. And I understand her story.

Among all the ideas and thoughts from the movie, two have hit me right to my core.

First one is: how to find myself in this half virtual and half reality world? I don’t know about you, but that has been areal challenge for many of us.

The Internet has everything, and it’s wonderful that we can find anything that we want and become anybody we want to be here. But the questions are: what do I really want to find? And who do I really want to be?

The reality that we live in everyday can be disappointing, painful, sad, and needs us constantly mourn for the loss over our loved ones, friendship, love, kindness, care for each other, even directions in life.

It’s chaotic, weird, opposing and messy.

All the crisis Evelyn had in her life led her to the rock bottom: divorce, trouble with IRS, relationship with her daughter, etc. etc. The more she tried to run away from the problems, the more they came back to hunt her.

Like many of us, we, the busy wives, Moms, daughters have been running around and bury ourselves in receipts, chores, tasks, the Internet and everything else that we could pay attention to so that we could avoid hard truth that’s desperately need our focus, honesty and answers.

Why? Because we were dying inside, little by little, and day by day…

When we lose ourselves, we lose the people whom we love and care deeply about, the relationship that we want all along.

Until we can honestly see ourselves and what's important in life, we can’t see the others no matter how close they are.

Learning to see with the honesty is the power that we all have, and can change our relationship with self, and each other.
