empathy as assumption

Everyone carries assumptions, some from experiences and observations, while others from biases and inherited judgments that are often difficult to identify.

Empathy can turn into assumptions we make about people we know and have supported before. Instead of guessing someone’s feelings and needs, we make assumptions.

Checking our assumptions requires us to slow down and clarify what we believe. This isn't just about getting better at supporting others, for many people, it's the only way to grasp the nuances and subtleties that lead to meaningful conversations and connections.

Don't simply assume.
