empathy as a skill

It takes practice to master a skill. Writing every day is a practice. The more we write doesn't necessarily make our daily writing easy all the time and guarantee success, but it certainly makes it less terrifying and uncertain.

Just like writing, empathy is a skill. Instead of seeing it as a step we do during a creativity process, empathy can be a daily practice.

One way to practice empathy is to check in with our feelings and needs. Writing down what we notice about our feelings and connecting to our needs is a small step that can lead to a significant change. Once we have done enough self-connection, guessing other people's feelings and needs will become second nature.

Empathy helps us see our work and raises the awareness of people around us. When interacting with others, we are more likely to extend our helping hands instead of standing off and feeling reluctant.
