Identifying emotional state is a skill.
Often, at the moment of triggering, people are overwhelmed by feelings beyond expression. Strong emotional state usually involves feelings from 5 to 6 (or even more) categories: fear (feeling insecure), pain (regretful), sadness (disappointed), tension (frustrated), yearning (longing), embarrassment (self-conscious), disconnection (withdrawn), and confusion (torn) over a single event.
Being able to single out all the feelings in these categories helps us understand our emotional state. When we feel understood and seen, we are more likely to calm down (shift our emotional state) and identify the real change.
Naming the feelings requires slowing down and turning in to our inner self. If you don’t have the habit of naming your emotions, you might want to start now.
It’s empowering to know we can change how we feel. When we shift our emotional state, we see people and things around us differently for the better.
