emotion check-in

I am one of the “feelers” in the Non-violent Communication (NVC) world. As the name suggests, people who are “feelers” rely on our emotions to see people and the world around us. I learned that connecting with my feelings and needs is part of the practice in understanding myself.

When the year-long learning ends in June, I decided to take a break and stopped the practice. Now two months have passed. Not only I started to notice the changes after that but also life has become increasingly difficult.

It turns out, the practice is crucial. Because of the daily check-in, I was able to clear out negative emotions by tuning into my feelings and needs. By resolving triggers and inner conflicts, I was able to move on with bliss and clarity. Once the practice stopped, emotions and feelings started to pileup and intertwine with each other. With the mixed feelings, it’s challenging to tell the past from the present.

Understanding emotions helps tremendously. When they are murky, so is everything else.
