Sometimes, in order to work with people we want to, we comply with an elevator pitch request.
The goal of the pitch is for decision-makers to scan and see if our work is interesting enough for them to pursue further. It’s about convenience and efficiency, especially when there are many to select from.
I struggle with elevator pitches because I'd rather take my time to say all the things needed to help people understand me better. But I'm willing to step up and deliver when the situation calls for it.
So here is the elevator pitch structure that I found helpful:
· Describe the meta-narrative in the world
· Articulate the specific challenge the audiences face
· Propose our unique point of view and solution for the change
· Describe the impact it brings
The elevator pitch can open doors to opportunities. But when to use it can be an issue.
Choose carefully.
