elephant in the room

When an elephant is in the room, we have pretended not to see it so far.

There are at least two reasons for the pretending: one is fear. We don’t know what to do with the elephant and speaking about something we don’t know about is scary. Another is fear too. By speaking up, we might make others feel uncomfortable and we want to protect them from feeling uncomfortable.

But the thing is when we see the elephant, it’s likely that other people see it too. Helping the elephant get out of the room by speaking with honesty and vulnerability helps everyone.

After all, there isn't any elephant but our centered self who sees something is missing and nudges us to speak up.
