discipline vs. control

The relationship between works like a teeter-totter.

The rising need for control in today’s world, to tame feelings of uncertainty and instability, makes it harder to connect and contribute, especially when the belief is that stability comes from the external world.

But the irony is, the harder we try to control, the more our actions backfire.

If our goal is to gain stability, it’s much more likely that we can achieve it through learning and practice in regulating our emotions, reactions, and how we interact with and see people and things around us. What consistent practice and habit do for us helps us build trust in our own actions, grow capacity, and develop a stronger sense of empowerment. Therefore, it greatly reduces our need to control the external world.

The stability and trust we all seek come from within. Not the outside.
