A Christmas Carol (Disney 2009) is another movie that I enjoy watching on Christmas day. One thing that I learned from the story is the definition of success. Scrooge spent most of his life focusing on profits and measuring everything through that lens. Money was important, but when money had become the only thing that mattered, what was left for him was calculating and the bitterness and resentment of doing it.
Another thing is about change. Scrooge was a changed man after his journey with the Christmas spirits of the past, present, and future. The merit is that our beliefs and narratives define our worldviews. Science backs up Charles Dickens’ theory so much so that an established coaching business followed it and created a process named after the author called “the Dickens”.
Looking back on the past, seeing our present, and imagining the future self have helped many people identify the limiting beliefs that don't serve us anymore. Changing the beliefs and narratives about self and everything around us is one way to liberate ourselves and initiate change.
The new Scrooge was a happy man filled with joy, light, and love.
It could happen at any stage of life. And it's never too late to make a change.
