defending the status quo

Effective and efficient systems need people to defend the status quo.

The job of the defenders requires more than just fulfilling the duty. Besides the duty,  the defenders are responsible for applying professional conscience and judgment to alert the system by giving feedback. When the defending job loses enough autonomy, creativity, and judgment, it drives capable people to exodus the system and further turns off the feedback loop.

Aligning duty with responsibility helps defenders sustain the feedback loop and the well-run system.
