daily habit

Schools ask children to read for 20 minutes daily at home. It works for some, but not the others. For R, it does.

For the 20 minutes, kids get to decide how they want to do it: read alone, with another, or even in a group. R enjoys accompaniment – this person not only is his audience but shares the reading with him. What’s more? He enjoys reading before bedtime in jammies under the duvet. Cozy!

For many, reading can be a simple task that only involves a book and some free time. But when it becomes a narrative that satisfies emotional needs, some children are more willing to commit to it.

Once the children enroll in the narrative, they are the ones who insist on reading daily instead of their teacher and parents.
