cut in school

When finding work is difficult, we naturally want to cut back on our expenses and avoid spending on unnecessary things.

When natural resources such as water and food are scarce during natural disasters, people try to consume the minimum to sustain themselves.

It’s easy to think that when our public schools have a budget deficit, cutting programs such as art and music or even closing schools is the solution. But it is not.

Just like when business owners decide to maximize profit by selling crappy products that don’t last, cutting corners is how they race to the bottom.

When cutting programs and learning opportunities is normalized to address a budget deficit, I am afraid we sabotage ourselves and forget why we started in the first place—fighting for better learning experiences for our children. Not the opposite.
