competition

The Olympic Games are competitions.

Like the word “judgment”, competition evokes both positive and negative feelings.

The Olympic creed says, “The most important thing in the Olympic Games is not to win but to take part, just as the most important thing in life is not the triumph but the struggle. The essential thing is not to have conquered but to have fought well.”

From the statement, we could assume that the Olympics value participation, persistence and resilience over winning, triumph and dominance.

The former emphasizes self-trust, self-connection, even interdependence while the later status and hierarchy.

There is nothing wrong to compete, but the question is: what are we trying to achieve through the competition?
