There is confusion between the community and everyone.
A famous marketing quote says, “If you try to please everyone, you’ll please no one.”
It’s easy to mistake building a community business for pleasing the general public. Often, we’ll see business owners put phrases like “we serve everyone!”
A helpful way to think about this is, instead of considering the general public as our audience, we choose our customers.
When we know who we seek to serve, we can go above and beyond to delight them.
