Besides going to school, one thing that takes up children's and parents’ time is sports. Playing sports allows children to shine with their physical strengths. Being physically active isn’t always viewed as positive in our current school environment. Thank goodness for programs such as sports and dance that these children get to be themselves and thrive.
There are at least two narratives for children to play sports: one is mostly about status, while the other is grounded in calling.
For children who want to be cool kids and get their peers and parents’ approval, playing sports is one way to meet the need.
For children who need a way to find their true identity that they can't find elsewhere, playing sports is a must.
These two narratives carry subtle but different energies that are up to the adults to see and guide children to see themselves in the mix.
