When we are not careful, we let our emotions run our lives.
When something triggers us, and it's small, you catch yourself. “I’m upset.” “I'm annoyed!”
With big triggers, catching yourself alone won’t be enough; you will need to learn which path you need to take to bring your normal self back into your life. There are tools to create that magical emotional shift: the empathy guessing tool from Nonviolent Communication (NVC), the four questions (the work) from Byron Katie, or the newest Let Them theory from Mel Robbins.
The goal is to tend to our disconnected emotions so they do not hijack us.
After all, it is OUR responsibility to take care of ourselves and put our lives back on track.
