about daily practice

When practicing every day, it’s easy to follow the desire to do it for success. A lucid blog. The best drawing. The perfect mug.

When we create something we are happy about, it’s natural to want to replicate it. “If I can do this, I should be able to do that,” we think. However, when expectations of ourselves have turned into a measurement that we use to judge ourselves, it has become a trap that undermines everything we try to do.

Practice is how we get better over time. Often, we see our best work along the way, but that’s not why we start. Getting better at the next level often comes from more failure, and that learning is the point.
