a christmas carol

Charles Dickens knew the secret of change.

Scrooge changed overnight because of the dream where he saw his deceased business partner suffer in the afterlife. But the heavy chain and the money box weren’t enough for Scrooge to take the leap.

The final push came when he realized how little his departure impacted his world because nobody mourned for his death. He was an insignificant person to the others regardless of the status or how much money he had.

Mourning is a personal thing and the deep feelings inside towards others rarely come from money or status but real connections.

If we want to make a change in our lives, we could learn two things from Charles Dickens: a real connection is created through empathy, compassion and generosity, and finding the right leverage is one of the key reasons that the real change happens.

Merry Christmas Eve.
